Last night was a gift. It was the perfect summer night when the air is delicate and nimble. It was quiet, but not still. Easy and blithe. The humidity was low, almost unperceivable, and as the setting sun faded behind the horizon, the gradient of color and light painted the skies like a masterpiece – orange to yellow to green to blue, hues darkening with each brush stroke towards the starry night sky. It was simply magical, demanding a drive, windows down, radio playing.
It provided a simple pleasure. Uncomplicated and easy. It was blissful.
Life is short. It can be hard at times, but the simple pleasures in our every day lives can be so meaningful and joyous. Much like bringing in flowers from the garden to brighten our homes. Sure, it’s nice to have a cut flower garden, but you don’t have to. Who says you can’t bring in Yarrow, Daylilies, Coneflowers or just about anything that tickles your fancy? I do and have, and they bring me much joy. Sometimes they only last a day or two while others seem to do quite well. Just remember to get them in water and expose them to as much sunlight as possible. Simple. Easy. Beautiful.
“Flowers seem intended for the solace of ordinary humanity.”
