December has bestowed upon us an early Christmas gift – moderate temps, unfettered ground and frost-free soil. Why, pray tell, is this a gift? Normally at this time of year, the ground is frozen, blanketed in snow, and cold. Essentially, December has given us the gift of time. Additional time to get our yards in order, dormant prune, mulch, and plant. Many of us were caught off guard when October & November brought freezing temps along with wispy snow falls that made clean ups impossible. To add insult to injury, some stubborn trees and shrubs refused to give up their leaves in a timely and convenient manner. Take advantage of this gift of time by calling Sweeney’s today to schedule any one of the following projects and take advantage of our December discounts:
- Fall Clean Ups (remove any additional leaves or debris, especially off the lawn. Put your yard to bed neat and tidy for a head start in Spring.)
- Dormant Pruning (this is a great time to prune as the shape of the tree or shrub is now visible without its leaves).
- Mulch and Mulch Installation (great way to protect shallow-rooted perennials and roses from the dangers of freeze-thaw cycles). Consider using evergreen boughs!
- Got a pot-bound tree or shrub? Get it in the ground now while the window of opportunity is still open. They will be much happier in the ground than spending the Winter in a pot.
- Purchase a Sweeney’s gift certificate! Simply name the service and denomination, and Sweeney’s will do the rest! Consider a month of mowing services, a beautiful shade tree, a bountiful and stunning planter/container, or a Spring Clean Up. Sweeney’s gift certificates are unique and are sure to please anyone on your list.
“Of winter’s lifeless world each tree
Now seems a perfect part;
Yet each one holds summer’s secret
Deep down within its heart.”
-Charles G. Stater
